About the work unit / facility
Cardiac Services at Townsville HHS delivers high quality, comprehensive care within a modern, well-equipped facility.

  • Cardiac Catheterisation Suite features two labs (including biplane), performing ~1500 angiograms and ~400 PCIs annually, plus advanced electrophysiology services.
  • Cardiac Investigations Unit conducts ~2500 echo studies yearly, including 3D, transoesophageal, and stress echocardiography, alongside Holter monitoring, stress testing, and ambulatory BP.
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery performs ~500 cases annually.
  • Includes a dedicated cardiac ward, ICU, CCU, Chest Pain Unit, and Heart Failure Service.
  • Regional outreach clinics extend to Mt Isa, Ingham, Charters Towers, Ayr, Palm Island, and the North West HHS.

  • Salary range: $210,332 to $266,677 p.a. (L18-L27)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Attraction and retention incentive allowance (50% base salary)
  • Regional and rural attraction allowance (5% base salary)
  • Motor vehicle allowance between $21,000 and $25,500 p.a.
  • Professional development allowance of $21,500 p.a. + 3.6 weeks p.a. leave

About your opportunity

  • Provide expert Clinical Cardiology services, including advanced Echocardiography techniques (Transoesophageal, 3D, Dobutamine Stress), Cardiac CT, and Cardiac MRI.
  • Contribute to medical research and engage in teaching to support and inspire the next generation of health professionals.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of medical services across hospital, community, and outreach settings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) qualifications (or equivalent).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Cardiac, CT/Cardiac, MRI).
  • Registration as a Specialist Cardiologist with Medical Board of Australia.
  • Advanced clinical experience in Cardiology, expertise in echocardiography including transthoracic echo, Transesophageal echo, Stress echocardiography and 3D Echocardiography.
