The Speech Pathology Assistant will provide clinical and non-clinical support to patients at Ipswich Hospital as part of the Speech Pathology team and performs duties either under direction and/or supervision of speech pathologists. This position will be required to work across all service areas/clinical caseloads and in multidisciplinary teams.

About the role

  • Support the Speech Pathology Department in the provision of clinical services to patients within scope of practice guidelines under the direct or indirect supervision of a Speech Pathologist.

  • Provide a defined range of clinical screening assessments and treatments as prescribed by the speech pathologist, and allowed by testing guidelines and legislation such as using decision support tools, clinical pathways, and patient specific guidelines.

  • Assist with developing and sourcing communication aids and support.

  • Maintain close communication with speech pathologists, patients, families and other hospital staff regarding patient care and progress, including relevant clinical documentation and statistics collection according to organisational guidelines and legal requirements.

  • Provide support, mentoring and supervision to less experienced allied health assistants, including teaching and assessment of generic competencies as required.

  • Undertake non-clinical tasks including ordering, maintenance and cleaning of equipment and clinical supplies, sourcing quotes for purchases, health, safety, and emergency equipment auditing, and some routine clerical and administrative duties.
