About the role
The purpose of this role is to facilitate the delivery of support services to carers and families of the mental health service.
The key responsibilities of the role are:
- Serve as a positive role model to other carers and families and be open to sharing personal lived experience of assisting a person with mental health needs.
- Plan and facilitate support groups that focus on carer peer support and sharing the carer and family perspective.
- Provide direct carer peer support to carers, families and significant others, engaging in individual and group peer support, advocacy and education.
It is a mandatory requirement for the successful candidate to have a personal lived/living experience as a carer for a family member accesses mental health services (public or private) Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues, or a personal lived/living experience of caring for a person with mental health and/or substance use issues.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with carers, consumers, the community, health professionals and all service providers, while promoting an understanding of mental health.
- Ability to relate, empathise with, be aware of and see issues from the perspective of a carer, consumer, their families and people from other cultures.
- Ability to show proactive and effective communication skills by actively listening, conveying carer, consumer, and family's requirements clearly and fluently, displaying appropriate empathy and adapting style accordingly.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Skills in computer literacy
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
