About the role

The purpose of this position is to provide advanced-level paediatric speech pathology clinical and consultancy services in the clinical areas of complex feeding/swallowing (dysphagia) and communication difficulties for complex paediatric medical and surgical conditions within an acute and post-acute hospital setting at Ipswich Hospital and West Moreton Health.

This position is also responsible for contributing to the advancement of quality speech pathology services and optimal patient care through provision of clinical leadership for professional supervision, service development, quality improvement, clinical education and research activities.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Advanced-level knowledge, skills and expertise in contemporary, paediatric speech pathology clinical practice within an evidenced-based framework for use with infants and children presenting with complex feeding/swallowing disorders and/or complex communication difficulties, and an ability to apply these skills in an acute hospital setting with infants and children with complex medical conditions and disability.
  • Ability to apply evidence-based principles to independently develop solutions to facilitate novel, complex speech pathology or multidisciplinary clinical decisions and to initiate or contribute to formal research.
  • Ability to provide clinical and consultancy advice within an acute hospital setting (including the Special Care Nursery, Paediatric Inpatient Unit and associated paediatric outpatient clinics) to manage complex feeding/swallowing disorders and/or complex communication difficulties within the context of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • High level communication skills that enable the development of improved service delivery outcomes and effective relationships with staff, patients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead change through quality and service improvement activities and provide clinical supervision of speech pathologists, speech pathology students and support staff.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires possession of a tertiary degree in Speech Pathology from a recognised tertiary institution and eligibility for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
