Board of Examiners
The Board of Examiners (the Board) has upcoming vacancies. The Board’s activities contribute to the safety and health of workers in mines by ensuring only qualified and competent people are entrusted with key mining roles which, if mishandled, could contribute to injury and loss of life. The Board grants Certificates of Competency (CoC) and notices to persons assessed as being appropriately qualified to fill statutory safety and health mine management positions in the coal and metalliferous mining industries.

Individuals who meet the criteria of having at least ten years' practical experience in the mining industry; and hold a CoC under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 or the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 are invited to express their interest in appointment to fill vacancies for three-year terms. The Board strongly encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds who meet the criteria to express interest in becoming a member. The technical expertise and experience sought is outlined as follows:
- Surface Mine Manager CoC (Surface Coal Mines) holder with ten years'practical experience
- First or Second Class Mine Manager CoC (Underground Coal Mines) holders,with ten years' practical experience
- Electrical Engineering Manager CoC (Surface or Underground Coal Mines)holder, with ten years' practical experience
- Mechanical Engineering Manager CoC (Surface or Underground Coal Mines)holder, with ten years' practical experience
- Open Cut Examiner CoC (Surface Coal Mines) holder, with ten years' practicalexperience
Due to the recent introduction of a Practising Certificate Scheme within the CoC framework, applicants must also be able to demonstrate capacity to maintain a Practising Certificate through current employment with an operator or engagement as defined within section 186(6) of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999.
