Only Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens (who have a special category visa or the right to be granted one) and permanent residents can be appointed to permanent positions. If you have a work visa, you can only be employed in a temporary position (for the length of your visa, or until you become an Australian citizen or permanent resident).
