The primary purpose of this role is to provide operational leadership and management of a small project team that will develop forest and conservation policy responding to, and influencing, the development of statewide timber policy, and the development of a framework (or policy options) that support the transition of state forest to protected area.
This position will work within the Department and across government to direct the development, implementation and review of policy initiatives that support government priorities and provide expert policy and planning advice regarding forest conservation and management. This position is also required to provide leadership and operational support for native title and traditional owner engagement.

This position requires:

• Communicates with influence by negotiating and influencing a range of stakeholders and tailoring communication style and language to the audience's level of skill and experience and anticipating others' reactions to achieve outcomes.
• Demonstrates a good knowledge of working with indigenous communities and traditional owners and associated legislation such as the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Forestry Act 1959 and other relevant directives, policies and procedures, and proven ability to apply such knowledge in the resolution of complex and emerging issues.
• Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of safety, innovation, respect and inclusion.
