Join the DETSI Team as a Temporary Planning Ranger in Queensland's Northern Region

We are seeking a motivated individual to temporarily join the Northern Region Technical Support, Planning team. This is a special opportunity to immerse in the strategic aspects of conserving Queensland's national parks and forests. Your role will include developing management plans to ensure these natural treasures remain protected, accessible, and appreciated by all.

Based in the Cairns Region, with the possibility of negotiating another office location, your responsibilities span a wide range of tasks. You will help prepare planning documents and statements following the values-based management framework, research to collate information for planning values assessments, and assist in finalising management instruments for Northern Region's protected areas and state forests. This role demands close collaboration with First Nations peoples, embracing their knowledge and perspective in the planning process.

Effective communication is paramount as you will regularly liaise with various stakeholders about management planning matters. You should excel in project management, be adept in research activities, and skilled in drafting comprehensive texts for a variety of written formats. An understanding of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge in, protected area management will be highly advantageous.

While the primary focus is planning, this role occasionally requires travel, sometimes by light aircraft, to remote locations across different climatic conditions. As a ranger, you'll develop work plans, lead project deliveries, manage resources within a budget, and maintain fruitful relationships with neighbours, government bodies, and Indigenous communities.

This temporary position calls for candidates who are ethical and professional, with a clear understanding of regulatory frameworks, commitment to meeting objectives, and ability to take on work autonomously. Clear communication, capacity for collaborative work, and knowledge in conservation and natural resource management are essential.

If you possess these qualities and are ready to support our pledge to conservation, apply now and join us in upholding the natural heritage of North Queensland.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
