This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development, implementation and review of policy and legislation relating to protected areas. The role of Principal Policy Officer is to work within the Department and across government to lead and coordinate the development, implementation and review of policy and legislative initiatives that support government priorities and provide expert policy advice regarding protected area establishment and management.

This position requires:
- Supports strategic direction - you understand the broader factors, trends and influences that may impact on the achievement of the department's strategic objectives and the objectives of your work area.
- Achieves results - you are able to combine your own experience and expertise with other resources in order to achieve high quality outcomes for the Unit within set deadlines.
- Supports productive working relationships - you build and sustain relationships, liaising with a range of stakeholders including team members, other teams, colleagues and clients, and consult and share information with your own team.
- Communicates with influence - You confidently present written and oral messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner, tailored to your audience's level of knowledge, skill and experience.
- Technical/role specific - You have experience in developing strategic government policy and interpreting and applying legislation to achieve strategic policy outcomes, and knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, of the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Forestry Act 1959, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006, and other relevant legislation.
