An exciting opportunity has presented itself for a Principal Ranger to join the Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks Region (GBR&MP Region) on a temporary basis through to June 2025.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program.
In this role, you’ll provide high-level support to the Regional Director, managing key programs across the GBRMP, including resource management, fire management, pest control, asset management, and visitor services. You will collaborate with key partners to protect Queensland’s marine environments.

Role focus:
This key role focuses on managing the technical streams that are responsible for delivering key priorities including resource management, fire management, pest control, asset management, and visitor services—all while ensuring compliance with legislation and aligning with regional and divisional business goals.
Collaborating with key partners like the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Australian Institute of Marine Science, you'll help shape impactful programs that help protect Queensland's marine environments.
The most suitable applicant will be someone who can:
• Lead and guide strategic programs in resource management, fire management, pest control, asset management, and visitor services while improving operational policies and processes.
• Plan, monitor and report on the progress of strategic programs, projects and operational plans against established goals, timeframes and budget.
• Provide strong leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring efficient resource use and compliance with legislative requirements.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community, Indigenous groups, and government agencies.
• Oversee financial administration, workforce management, and ensure timely reporting to support regional and divisional goals.
To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
1. An unrestricted manual driver's licence
While no formal qualifications are required for this role, possession of a relevant qualification/s will be highly regarded
