Parliamentary Services is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Electorate Officer to join Mr Terry James Member for Mulgrave in the Mulgrave Electorate Office located in Cairns.

This is a permanent part time opportunity working 5 days per week during the hours of 9am to 2.30pm. 

About the role

As an Assistant Electorate Officer, you will work closely with the Electorate Officer and Mr James to support them with their Parliamentary duties.

You will be responsible for

  • Managing a busy inbox, responding and triaging a significant volume of emails to keep communication on track.
  • Maintaining Mr James's diary, scheduling appointments, meetings, and events
  • Assisting in the operation of the electorate office
  • Supporting the Electorate Officer
  • Liaising with constituents who contact the electorate office for information and assistance.
  • Supporting and engaging with community groups directly or through established external forums
  • Managing and maintaining the Member's diary
  • IT management and research
  • Financial obligations as set by legislation and Parliamentary Service policy and procedure.
  • Compilation and publishing of newsletter/surveys

About you            

To ensure success in this role, you should possess the following skills

  •  Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of clients and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
  • The ability to work autonomously and part of a small team.
  • A relevant qualification or experience in administration, communication or public relations
  • Social Media skills will be viewed favourably.
