The opportunity:
As our Farm Supervisor, Smart Farms, your duties include:
• Manage the farm support team and casual staff in accordance with DPI policies and procedures.
• Support DPI and other clients to facilitate the use of Agtech and deployment of technology within the Central Queensland, Smart Cropping Centre (CQSCC) to enable research trials for internal and external parties, onsite and remotely.
• Work closely with DPI and External Researchers to support operational requirements for research trials to capitalise on the use of Agtech equipment and resources.
• Include agricultural technology (Agtech) to undertake agronomic activities such as land preparation, irrigation installation and operation, planting, harvesting, weeding, chemical application, care and maintenance of field grain crops to facilitate efficiencies and the capture of data across all farming activities.
• Assist the Research Facility Manager in developing and implementing business and risk management plans with inclusion of Agtech resources to support research, development and extension undertaken on and from CQSCC.
• Implement operational and resource plans including service, repair and maintenance of resources including heavy plant and equipment, vehicles, machinery, built infrastructure and technology.
• In consultation, develop and implement property management plans including rotational programs, irrigation distribution for project and operational purposes.
• Utilise technology programs, packages and systems to collect and interpret data to inform decision making in areas such as, quality assurance, resource usage, recording and record keeping, compliance, financial management, property management and reporting.
• Provide complementary skills and information to ensure the integrity of research, development and extension projects and activities are respected and deliver positive outcomes for industry through rigid adherence to scientific protocols and quality assurance principles.
• Contribute in a manner which develops a harmonious work team where work excellence, diligence, cooperation and inclusiveness are standard behaviour.
You will also have:
• Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in a research-oriented environment.
• Demonstrated experience in agricultural operations and team leadership with at least 2-3 years focused on agricultural technology or smart farming.
What we are looking for:
There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess:
• Minimum of a Diploma or Associate Diploma in Agricultural or Animal Sciences or relevant equivalent.
• A current “C” class drivers' licence.
• HR Truck Licence (with ability to acquire an HC Licence)
Desirable licences and tickets:
• Remote pilot's licence (RePL)
• Remotely piloted aircraft operators' certificate (ReOC)
• Class R licence, front end loader, and grader ticket.
• Chemical accreditation (Chemcert) or the ability and willingness to acquire
