Senior Program Officer


Protected Area Investment; Protected Area Strategy & Investment; Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships; Brisbane City (Flexible)

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the continued success of Queensland’s Private Protected Area Program. This position forms part of a geographically dispersed team that is responsible for the establishment of nature refuges and special wildlife reserves under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and their ongoing administration. The role will plan, participate in and coordinate projects that promote the growth and resilience of the private protected area network in a way that ensures the Program is adaptive, progressive and delivers upon strategic objectives.

Your expertise in Queensland's regional ecosystems, ecological processes, GIS and/or environmental management will be utilised in undertaking desktop and field assessments, as well as providing technical advice to landholders, management and contributing to the development of policies and procedures.

For this role, you'll need to:
• Knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, of policy, legislation and frameworks as they relate to the declaration and administration of private protected areas (nature refuges and special wildlife reserves).
• Project management skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities, manage change, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement to meet deadlines and commitments.
• Analytical, research and problem-solving skills including the ability to review and synthesise information from multiple sources, draw accurate conclusions and provide authoritative advice to decision-makers.
• Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills particularly with respect to the preparation of accurate and concise, reports, technical and policy documents, policy submissions, and briefing papers.
• High level interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders, including First Nations people.
• Role model leadership behaviours as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland. 
• Contribute to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion by bringing your unique experiences and perspectives.

This role requires field work in rural and isolated areas. Experience in similar settings, including safety knowledge and 4WD skills, would be highly regarded
