Grant Details
A one-off cash payment of $2,500 (general category) or $5,000 (rural/remote category) is paid if you meet the academic and residential criteria. Payments are aimed at assisting with study-related expenses in commencing university.
About You
You must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia
- Successfully complete Year 12 at a Queensland state or non-state school in 2025
- Obtain an ATAR of 88.75 or higher
- Commence or continue an initial teacher education (ITE) program at a Queensland Higher Education Institution in Semester 1, 2026 on a full-time basis
Note: students who have completed school and have taken a gap year remain eligible after one gap year only. They should apply for the grant in the following year's application process. For example:
- students who completed Year 12 in 2024 and had a gap year can apply for the grant now to commence their teaching degree in Semester 1, 2026.
- students who complete Year 12 in 2025 and take a gap year will need to apply for the grant at the end of 2026 to commence their teaching degree in Semester 1, 2027.
Rural or Remote applications
Eligible rural and remote applicants are those whose family residential address whilst they were completing Year 12 falls within the catchment of a Queensland (state) school with a transfer rating* of TR3-TR7 as per the Department of Education Schools Directory.
Rural and remote applicants can also submit an application for the general category, however, applicants can only be successful in one category.
Priority selection will be given to Aboriginal students and Torres Strait Islander students, and students who reside in a drought declared Local Government area.
