Join Our Culinary Team at QAGOMA
Located in Brisbane's vibrant cultural precinct, the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is celebrated for its world-class exhibitions and exceptional dining experiences. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Commis Pastry Chef to support the pastry team and contribute to a food program that celebrates creativity, precision, and seasonal produce.
Working closely with the Executive Chef and Pastry Chef de Partie, you'll assist in preparing and presenting high-quality desserts, cakes, and pastry items across QAGOMA's outlets - including the GOMA Bistro, QAG Café, and premium event catering. This role offers the opportunity to refine your pastry techniques, gain experience across a variety of service styles, and contribute to maintaining the Gallery's high culinary standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and produce high-quality pastry and dessert items for service across all Gallery outlets and event operations.
- Work collaboratively with the Pastry Chef de Partie, Sous Chefs, and wider kitchen team to maintain consistency, quality, and presentation standards.
- Assist in daily mise en place, portioning, and stock rotation, ensuring products meet food safety and shelf-life requirements.
- Support pastry production schedules, including preparation for large-scale events, functions, and exhibition openings.
- Monitor product usage and assist senior chefs with ordering and cost control to support cost of goods targets and minimise wastage.
- Ensure compliance with all Food Safety and Workplace Health and Safety standards in accordance with the Gallery's Food Safety Plan and the Food Act 2006.
- Be available to work flexibly across the Gallery's outlets and catered events on a rotating 7-day roster, including weekends.
About You
- Hold a minimum Certificate III in Patisserie and a strong passion for pastry and dessert production.
- Have experience working in a similar role within a large hotel, restaurant group, or multi-venue establishment.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, maintaining high standards of product quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Thrive in a collaborative team environment, showing initiative, reliability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
