Senior Remote Sensing Officer

Operating from within the Spatial and Data Services team, you will develop, manage and evaluate remote sensing workflows and tools for the successful delivery of the Remote Sensing program in DLGWV.
This will include researching contemporary best-practice remote sensing methodologies, generating and validating remote sensing data, workflow and tool development and the provision of expert advice on remote sensing methodologies and techniques to various stakeholders in the Department.

The Role
Working within the Water Resource Management, Program Knowledge and Systems Initiatives (PKSI) business group of the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers, provides a rare opportunity to be involved in transformational change that will underpin how rural water resources are accessed, used, and managed by Government, Water Users and the community into the future.
Key Accountabilities:
• Contribute to the research, development, implementation and continuous improvement of methods and standards for time series analysis and change detection; apply your existing skills in contemporary programming languages (such as Python, java-script, Postgres SQL/PostGIS and others) to build and support large scale early detection and land cover monitoring systems.
• Maintain and use open source and proprietary software and data management systems for image processing and analysis to develop remote sensing products, store large datasets, and maintain quality control in a multi-user environment based on recognised data standards.
• Develop and deliver high quality, scientifically defensible map and remote sensing products, expert reports and reporting tools that include quantitative and statistical analysis and/or visualisation of data and results using contemporary methods.
• Establish and maintain networks and collaborative partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders relevant to the work program using exemplary high level interpersonal and communication skills.
• Communicate and translate complex scientific information to a range of audiences using a variety of media.
About You
• A degree in the field of Remote Sensing, Geographic Sciences, Spatial Science Technology or an agreed equivalent as determined by the Director-General.
• Extensive experience in spatial information technologies, geographic information systems and/or web services and products is essential.
• Mandatory requirements for this role include extensive experience in the use of Google Earth Engine (GEE), ArcGIS and knowledge of all ESRI products.
• Knowledge of MS Power Platform is highly desirable.
