As a Product Development Technologist, you will be integral in working within an experienced multidisciplinary team, undertaking food related research activities in the areas of product development, including formulation design, process development and shelf-life validation as you support Queensland’s food industry to commercialise new value-added products.

The opportunity:

As our Product Development Technologist, you will:
• Contribute to and lead applied, industry focused research projects predominantly in the areas of food formulation, product and process development, food safety, shelflife extension and labelling with an aim to maximize product value, quality and safety.
• Provide technical insights, project management discipline and a scientific approach to provide product development deliverables to projects for the Department, collaborative research partners, clients and industry stakeholders.
• Deep understanding and integration of consumer insights, market drivers, cost considerations, operational execution and food regulations to enable the successful delivery of product development projects.
• Participate in the preparation of program strategies, project scoping documents, funding applications, project management, project budgets; as well as professional reports, oral presentations and scientific publications to communicate the outcomes
from research activities.
• Promote the skills and capabilities available within the CFS group during business development activities, direct client interactions, conferences and industry events.
• Build strong collaborative working relationships with relevant research institutions, industry groups and professionals to assist in identifying opportunities for project partnerships, resourcing, and funding.
• Some travel may be required to attend conferences and client factory trials.

Technical Requirements of the position:
• Prior experience in Product Development or Research and Development role in industry is highly desirable. Proven ability to manage self and technical projects to ensure pre-defined deliverables are met.
• Demonstrated high competence in carrying out analytical laboratory and technical experimentation in the field of food science and technology.
• Ability to apply sound food science knowledge to assist in research experimental design and improve analytical data collection. Proactive achievement of high-quality data analysis and interpretation, along with high standard of written and verbal communication skills
• High level competency in Information Technology skills, including database management and superior understanding of software application
• Ability to work effectively independently and in multi-disciplinary research teams
• Capability to undertake trials that may require project experimentation in various locations.

• Bachelor degree or higher in Food Science or a related discipline. Experience in Product Development or Research and Development in industry is highly desirable.
