The Principal Adviser, Serious Offenders Group (SOG) will provide advice regarding the standards and principles related to sentence management practices and legislative compliance for prisoners who fall within the Serious Offenders Group cohort; specifically prisoners referred for and subject to management under a Maximum Security Order and prisoners whom are high risk, high harm and meet the thresholds for SOU management.

The most suitable applicant will demonstrate their applied knowledge, skills and experiences against these essential role requirements of the Individual Contributor leadership stream:

  • Experience working within a criminal justice environment, particularly within either a custodial or community-based correctional environment.
  • Detailed and current knowledge of Government and Agency directions and objectives and an ability to adapt these to apply within operational policy and procedure.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislative and statutory requirements, particularly within offender management frameworks.
  • Ability to establish priorities, be a highly motivated, energetic and proactive individual able to work autonomously and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Significant experience in the provision of advice to senior officers to inform the development of risk mitigation and compliance strategies relating to complex prisoner management.
  • Research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing and reporting on trends associated with offender management and continued business frameworks and practices.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective negotiations with internal and external stakeholders in addition to excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment while also working under pressure, meeting deadlines and exercising sound judgment within a complex environment.
