The Parole Board Queensland was established as an independent authority and its statutory functions and powers are exercised independent from influence by Queensland Corrective Services (QCS).
As an independent decision-making body, the Board receives information from a range of people, service providers and organisations. The Board scrutinizes the information it is provided with and maintains public confidence in the parole decision making process through transparency in its processes.
The Secretariat is a business unit established under the Community Corrections and Specialist Operations division in QCS. The Secretariat supports the Board through the provision of administrative and legal support in accordance with QCS’ statutory obligations relating to the operations of the Board.

We need you to have high level experience in the provision of quality and timely legal services in administrative law and/or criminal law matters, the ability to apply rigorous process, risk evaluation, and logic to solve difficult and complex legal problems as well as find effective solutions to achieve organisational goals. Moreover, you should possess the leadership and integrity expected of a senior professional officer which is necessary to manage sensitive and complex issues and retain the credibility and trust of the organisation.
Your day to day will be ensuring the Legal Services Unit supports the Board through the provision of legal advice and representation in relation to Parole Board Application and Suspension matters, including No Body No Parole, Restricted Prisoner and Judicial Review matters, which may involve contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature. You will be preparing timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to Board activities. Further, you will be providing support, guidance and development to legal officers while promoting and nurturing a team culture with good morale and diversity.
