The Manager of Sentence Management is required to provide operational leadership and management to sentence management staff, both at individual locations and where required across broader regional hubs. The position is responsible for ensuring quality assurance and governance oversight of all tasks completed to ensure the lawful detention of prisoners, appropriate prisoner security classification and placement in accordance with their delegated authority, as well as putting appropriate plans in place for prisoner progression.
Management of the work unit’s human resource functions is also required and this will include; managing staff performance, training and development, as well as analyse trends and workloads to ensure adequate resource allocation within their teams.

The primary accountabilities of the Manager Sentence Management include:
• Maintain and manage systems that support risk mitigation and management through a quality assurance framework and governance process
• Manage processes that ensure lawful detention of prisoners
• Manage the delivery of sentence management and sentence administration functions across a correctional centre and analyse work demands and trends to ensure that appropriate resources are available
• Manage and quality assure the delivery of prisoner security classification, placement, planning documents and parole processes ensuring alignment and interaction with state-wide objectives, including safety, security and prisoner capacity utilisation requirements
• Appropriately exercise delegated authority in relation to prisoner documents and sentence management functions
• Manage human resource functions in accordance with delegated authority and ensure that staff members operate within procedural boundaries and delegated authorities.
• Manage staff performance, organise and ensure appropriate training opportunities are available to all staff to support compliance with training frameworks and effective utilisation of agency resources
• Lead performance improvement through the maintenance of quality operational assurance frameworks, conduct audits that affirm process integrity and the maintenance of quality standards, providing advice and support to senior managers on risks, trends and issues
• Ensure the appropriate management of information and the maintenance of privacy standards within the Sentence Management unit and in delivering sentence management functions
• Manage enquiries regarding sentence management by responding professionally and within a timely manner
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and ensure a timely and appropriate exchange of information between these stakeholders and Sentence Management Services
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and practice directives, and be able to provide advice on such to centre management staff and stakeholders, as they relate to the management of a prisoner's lawful detention, security classification or placement, prisoner planning and parole management
• Model professional and ethical behaviour to all staff members
• Demonstrate highly developed written and oral communication skills
