About the opportunity
The Associate Midwife Educator – Child Birth Educator (CBE), leads and delivers Child Birth Education services for the Women's and Children's Service Group and the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.
The Associated Midwife Educator is responsible for coordinating the CBE staffing team (training, rostering and other human resource management), the booking and referral processes and the development of all educational material provided to service consumers and their families. The role is also responsible for managing and presenting (face-to-face and virtual) educational material of the numerous ‘CBE and Parenthood Education programs' for the THHS.
About the department
Child Birth Education and Parenting Education service is free for women (with a valid Medicare card) who birth through the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. We encourage women to bring a support person to the sessions. Role requirements
- Qualification: Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
- Successful applicant will be required to complete Townsville University Hospital mandatory competencies and Maternity mandatory competencies, Examination of the Newborn package and Water Immersion in Labour package, and Extended Practice Authority – ‘Midwives' within three months of commencement.
- Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster (Across a 7 days a week service, Daytime and Evening shifts)
- Driver Licence: This position requires the applicant to possess an appropriate license to operate a Class C (car) motor vehicle. Verification of license must be provided prior to commencement of duty.
- Applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, ieMR, and Power Point.
- Travel: This position may be required to travel to (via small planes or ferry), and work at, other facilities located within the THHS, e.g., participate in clinical activities or meetings for planning, quality, performance and education. This may involve day and/or overnight stays. The successful applicant must be able to commit to this requirement.
- Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.

- Salary range: $64.61 - $65.97 p.h. (NG6-2)
