The Mental Health Acute Inpatient Service (MHAIS) provides short-term assessment and treatment for people experiencing acute episodes of mental illness. Services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team and include specialist assessment, evidence-based treatment, clinical interventions, reviews, and discharge planning within a safe, therapeutic, and consumer-focused environment. Care is trauma-informed and person-centred, with a strong focus on recovery, resilience, and therapeutic engagement. MHAIS promotes shared responsibility for recovery through partnerships between consumers, carers, families, and clinicians, while supporting the development and strengthening of community networks and supports.

About the role
The Clinical Nurse – MHAIS, is an advanced clinical practice Registered Nurse who provides clinical expertise and support within the MHAIS. This position provides expert clinical care and guides clinical practice across this unit to support recovery pathways. This position also supports the Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Consultant to meet the strategic and operational objectives of patient-centred care within West Moreton Mental Health and Specialised Services.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated clinical skills in the area of acute mental health nursing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skills in contemporary therapeutic approaches for mental health consumers.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, providing clients, families and stakeholders with a professional and flexible service that meets their needs.
- Demonstrated ability to assist and understand the needs of other team members and communicate with all team members appropriately. This is inclusive of the demonstrated ability to promote a learning environment within the team and contribute to the learning of others through a willingness to share information with others.
- Demonstrated effective self-management skills in relation to strong time management, documentation, prioritisation and delegation to achieve deadlines
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current annual practising certificate are mandatory for this position.
