Senior Land Officer (Stock Routes)

You will be part of the state-wide Stock Route Management Unit (SRMU) working to sustainably manage the Queensland Stock Route Network. This position is one of two Senior Land Officers (Stock Routes) based in Longreach, covering North and Central Regions. You will also work closely with South Region and Land Services (Brisbane) to deliver a consistent state-wide management approach. Frequent overnight travel will be required.

As a Senior Land Officer (Stock Routes), you will:
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with managers, local government officers (operational, executive and elected) and specialist consultants on stock route matters.
• Have a sound knowledge of natural resource management and asset management principles relating to the management of the stock route network.
• Monitor and implement the stock route capital works program.
• Support capacity building of local government and other stakeholders through assistance in the development and delivery of training and communication programs on stock route management.
• Assess appeal applications under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 and make recommendations to senior decision makers in relation to stock route matters.
• Negotiate complex stock route dealings with clients in accordance with the Stock Route Management Act 2002 and other relevant legislation, applying departmental policy and procedures and providing quality advice and support to clients.
• Exercise delegated authority under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 in accordance with sound administrative decision making principles and risk consideration.
• Provide senior staff, local government and other stakeholders with high quality advice on application of the Stock Route Management Act 2002 and other relevant legislation for land dealings.
• Support senior officers, in the operational supervision of teams including undertaking performance and development programs, allocating cases, monitoring staff workload, and addressing underperformance.
• Review, develop and implement improved work practices and procedures in meeting departmental objectives and services to clients.
• Participate constructively in regional teams to plan, coordinate and lead implementation of new directions, strategies and initiatives.
