As our Senior Scientist, you will:
• Support business management processes relating to human resource management of a small team, including monitoring for emerging issues and forward planning to ensure services are minimally disrupted by unexpected threats.
• Lead a small team within the Science program that focuses on ecological genetics to ensure that all scientific and technical work undertaken is consistent with best-practice expectations. This includes:
 o Overseeing small teams undertaking ecological and population genetics research, field experiments, sample diagnostics, and management of live ant colonies
 o Supporting the development of innovative approaches to the environmental detection and eradication of fire ants within the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program.
 o Being responsible for collection and collation of complex scientific data and associated analysis and interpretation using sound, scientifically valid judgement
 o All aspects considered through a workplace health and safety lens.
• Support the Principal Scientists to work collaboratively with the leadership team of Biosecurity Queensland and the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program and with other key stakeholders to implement the plans and policies consistent with the objectives of the eradication strategy.
• Provide effective communication of complex scientific information delivered by your work team and deliver relevant scientific research papers, reports and presentations as required.
• Foster an environment that values individual and team performance and continuous improvement and ensure that the National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program practices are consistent with contemporary principles of “best practice” and quality assurance.

Mandatory requirements
• The successful applicant must hold a mandatory Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Current unrestricted ‘C' Class drivers' licence.
• For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.

You may also have:
• Experimental design and statistical analysis of ecological and genetic datasets.
• Experience using statistical software, i.e. R, Genstat.
