Probationary Fisheries Officer

Working within Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol (QBFP), Fisheries Queensland, you will be part of a team where you will be required:
• to monitor compliance with State and Commonwealth legislation through enforcement, surveillance and inspection activities. State legislation includes the Fisheries Act 1994, Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Act 1994 and Marine Parks Act 2004 while Commonwealth legislation includes the Fisheries Management Act 1991 and Great Barrier Reef Marine Parks Act 1975.
• undertake investigations of fisheries, fisheries habitat and small craft safety noncompliance.
• deliver extension and education services that enable the community to develop knowledge and understanding of fisheries resource management and small craft safety.

As our Probationary Fisheries Officer, you will:
• Assist Authorised Officers with enforcement, surveillance, inspections and investigations in fisheries and fisheries habitat protection and small craft safety under state and commonwealth statutes.
• Assist in the delivery of compliance and extension services to fishers, small craft users and the community to develop their knowledge and understanding of fisheries, fisheries habitat and boating safety requirements.
• Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of State and Commonwealth Fisheries and maritime safety legislation.
• Liaise effectively with clients, members of the public and external stakeholders by exercising sound judgement and providing informed advice and escalating more complex issues to the supervisor.
• Engage with a cross section of the community on fisheries and marine related compliance issues through participation and delivery of education activities at public events.
• Undertake corporate card and other expenditure activities in accordance with the Financial Delegations and Authorisations.
• Work in a team with like-minded professionals.
• Assist with routine maintenance of departmental equipment and materials to ensure they are kept in good operational condition.
• Conduct other duties as directed and required by supervisor.
