A new interim Food Farmers' Commissioner of QLD has been appointed to
work closely with food producers to:
• improve price transparency
• help redress the imbalance between producers and supermarkets
• provide a safe environment for complaints to be considered and advocated.
The Food Farmers’ Commissioner of Queensland will also advocate for key developments in the national arrangements governing the relationships between supermarkets and food farmers.

About the role
A new interim Food Farmers' Commissioner of Queensland has been appointed to work closely with food producers to:
• improve price transparency
• help redress the imbalance between producers and supermarkets
• provide a safe environment for complaints to be considered and advocated.
The Food Farmers' Commissioner of Queensland will also advocate for key developments in the national arrangements governing the relationships between supermarkets and food farmers.
As our Principal Policy Officer, you will:
• Support the Queensland Food Farmers' Commissioners requirements relating to the establishment of the Office of the Queensland Food Farmers Commissioner including the scope of functions and governance for the Office of the Queensland Food Farmers' Commissioner.
• Provide high-level strategic policy support in establishing effective relationships with other institutions, including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and supermarket Code Arbiters to enable the referral of disputes on a confidential basis.
• Support the Queensland Food Farmers' Commissioner with the scoping, development, and implementation of a process to address pricing difference issues between supermarkets and rural suppliers and reporting of concerns of improper collusion, behaviours, and business practices adversely impacting Queensland farmers and subsequently Queensland consumers.
• Provide effective leadership, direction and motivation that supports a Senior Policy Officer who will be required to be client focussed, engaged and informed about the challenges of impacting Queensland farmers.
• Support the Queensland Food Farmers Commissioner to undertake an evaluation of the Geared-up Growers pilot project and investigate ongoing opportunities to improve price transparency through gathering and publishing data related to price points in the supply chains for fresh produce.
• Be able to draw on strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely and accurate briefings for senior departmental executives.
Essential requirements
• Experience in successfully leading and supporting teams and program management to achieve the Queensland Food Farmers' Commissioners goals and objectives.
• High level analytic, conceptual and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively provide authoritative advice to senior and executive management using advanced effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively engage, negotiate and influence to achieve organisational goals.
You may also have
• Experience in policy development and/or researching complex issues concerning agricultural industry supply chains is highly desirable.
• An understanding of specific agricultural industries and the broader Queensland food and agribusiness sector, and issues impacting on sustainability and growth of the sector, is highly desirable.
