The Parole Board Queensland was established as an independent authority and its statutory functions and powers are exercised independent from influence by Queensland Corrective Services (QCS).

As an independent decision-making body, the Board receives information from a range of people, service providers and organisations. The Board scrutinizes the information it is provided with and maintains public confidence in the parole decision-making process through transparency in its processes.

The Secretariat is a business unit established under the Community Corrections and Specialist Operations division in QCS.

The Secretariat supports the Board through the provision of administrative and legal support in accordance with QCS’ statutory obligations relating to the operations of the Board. The Associate position is essential in providing support to the Board.

We need you to have strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal and negotiation skills, the ability to meet the challenges of working in a demanding work environment, to be able to review, analyse and make recommendations that tackle procedural issues, prepare summaries of evidence and draft findings, and have a broad understanding or experience in the criminal justice system, administrative law and statutory decision making. 

Your day to day will be ensuring the Secretariat supports the Board through the provision of proficient administrative support, in accordance with the Agency's statutory obligations, under the CSA.

You'll be researching and analysing matters and general legal topics, case law and legislation.

You'll be facilitating necessary engagement and consultation with relevant stakeholders when you identify legislative provisions that better support procedural outcomes on board processes.
