The Psychological Services Unit (PSU) in the Brisbane CBD has an exciting opportunity for a temporary Senior Psychologist Practice Lead.
The PSU team serves under the Specialist Operations Branch of QCS, providing portfolio management of the psychological services workforce within QCS correctional centres. PSU are also responsible for contributing to and improving practice direction frameworks relevant to the delivery of front-line psychological services. Additionally, PSU also enhance the capacity of centre psychological services teams by providing supervision, training, mentoring and support. The role will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

About the Role:
To oversee the governance processes for Psychological Services and interventions in correctional centres and regions including in relation to vulnerable prisoners and those identified as being at risk of suicide or self-harm.
In this role you will:
- Develop and implement sustainable training, practice support and professional development strategies for staff within the Psychological Services portfolio regarding suicide prevention, disability, and other activities that support psychologists to meet registration requirements.
- Play a lead practice support role in QCS suicide prevention activities, including maintaining a working professional knowledge of best-practice principles for the management of suicidal and at-risk prisoners.
- Develop, implement and oversight strategies to manage prisoners and offenders who have been identified as posing an elevated baseline risk of suicide or self-harm and/or with complex disability needs.
- Work with frontline staff to embed procedural changes through training and professional development.
- Identify and develop strategies to effectively respond to any emerging risks to the effectiveness of QCS Psychological Services.
- Maintain a clinical caseload commensurate with responsibilities and/or provide expert advice on the appropriate management of complex/challenging cases.
- Provide expert consultancy and advice on psychology practices to senior psychologists, psychologists and other operational managers.
- Provide clinical supervision, support and mentorship to senior psychologists, provisional registrants and other identified staff.
- Implement, coordinate and participate in quality monitoring processes to deliver state-wide consistency in the standard of suicide risk assessment and psychological service delivery and develop strategies to improve the quality and consistency of practice.
- Demonstrate a high level of understanding of contemporary rehabilitation, disability and psychological professional practice issues, trends and practices.
- Develop and maintain partnerships between the Agency and other key internal and external stakeholders including Queensland Health.
- Collaborate effectively with other Commands and operational staff in order to achieve strategic and evidence-based outcomes.
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of work activities, issues impacting the Directorate, Agency and the operation of other supporting areas.
- Provide frontline psychological services in correctional centres as directed.
