Senior Analyst

This position is in the Demographic Insights and Statistics (DIS) team within QGSO. DIS has a strong culture of agility, collaboration and innovation. The group provides a broad range of analytics and reporting services to government to support evidence-based decision making.
Project activities include brokering data from data custodians and other stakeholders, extracting insights and value from data through building statistical models to examine trends, reporting complex outputs in client focussed products, and leveraging appropriate technologies to produce interactive visualisation tools.
The position supports demographic, Indigenous statistics, and population projections projects and involves liaison across all levels of government. The position will contribute to several demographic and statistical projects.

Key responsibilities
Manage aspects of, and contribute to, the monitoring, modelling, estimating and forecasting of Queensland populations, including selected subgroups and regions. Write, run and manage sophisticated data management and statistical modelling programs using a variety of software, including R.
For specific projects, lead and contribute to the collection, collation and storage of data and information, ensuring accuracy, currency and comprehensiveness of the collection.
Manage and contribute to the liaison and consultation with other stakeholders in relation to statistical matters and the acquisition of data/information.
Prepare high level reports, briefings, correspondence, data visualisations, graphical and statistical information, maps and presentations.
Support and train stakeholders and clients in using office products.
Actively ensure that team outputs satisfy Office standards for integrity, accuracy and timeliness based on quality principles and methodologies.
Represent the Office at meetings, presentations, working parties and conferences, and provide advice on demographic and statistical issues as required.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in processing and analysing data using the statistical software application ‘R'.
- High level written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing work priorities with tight deadlines, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
