The Murridhagun Cultural Centre is a priority reference point on matters designed to address the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, prisoners, offenders and victims and provision of culturally appropriate services and programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Cultural Liaison Officer provides advice to the Superintendent on culturally appropriate programs, services, practices and issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce and those in our care whether in custody or on community-based orders.
The position will also be responsible for ensuring open communication and linkages with the community.
In this role the successful applicant will:
- Provide cultural support and advice to management across a range of culturally appropriate programs, services and practices.
- Assist in the delivery of programs and activities to enhance a greater awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues both contemporary and historical.
- Assist in facilitating programs targeted at addressing identified rehabilitation needs, with particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive case notes and provide assessments and reports on request.
- Use cultural knowledge to help inform and shape service delivery including the delivery of training to staff and stakeholders.
- Work with a range of agencies including Department of Justice, Queensland Police Service, Families Responsibility Commission, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service, community justice groups and others to address the issues that bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into contact with the correctional system.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of cultural capability, cultural safety and cultural supervision to inspire a skilled and responsive workforce
- Contribute to staff awareness of prisoner and offender needs
- Establish effective interpersonal, written communication and engagement strategies with key clients to meet business and operational needs that support the application of practicable initiatives and link people, process and systems.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Corrective Services values, as outlined above, and in accordance with the values outlined for the public service with the Queensland Government.
- Although based at Murridhagun Cultural Centre, QCS Academy, there is also the requirement to backfill Cultural Liaison Officer positions in correctional centres and/or Community Corrections offices across Queensland, that will require direct contact with prisoners/offenders and includes assisting in delivering training/programs.
