Paediatric Intensive Care/Retrieval Registrar
South Brisbane
Provide medical care and receive training in intensive care medicine within a tertiary children’s hospital. The case-mix of QCH provides registrars with exposure to the full range of subspecialties including neuro intensive care, trauma & burns, cardiac intensive care and ECLS, liver transplant, and oncology and BMT. In addition, registrars may have the opportunity to work for the Paediatric Retrieval Service (CHQRS).

About the Role
- Clinically assess patients, arrange necessary investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge under the supervision of consultants.
- Attend and assist with procedures and become competent in appropriate clinical and technical practice under supervision. This includes ultrasound for vascular access, lung, and cardiac.
- Maintain comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records for assigned patients.
- Ensure that discharge summaries and other correspondence are completed without delay and communication with other specialty teams and healthcare agencies is maintained.
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff and allied health professionals.
- Participate in clinical outreach services of the PICU i.e. assessment and management of children in other locations of the hospital.
- Participate in the registrar education program.
- Take part in audits and quality management meetings and initiatives of the PICU.
- Completes quality improvement activities by undertaking clinical audits and clinical risk management activities on an annual basis.
- Participate in bedside teaching of medical students on placement in the PICU.
Additional responsibilities for senior registrars:
- Participate in the Paediatric Retrieval Service (CHQRS)
- Supervise junior registrars to develop procedural skills and other ICU clinical skills
