About the work unit / facility

The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS) is part of the Mental Health Service Group within Townsville Hospital and Health Service. Operating from North Ward and Vincent campuses, ATODS delivers specialist assessment, treatment, and harm reduction services for individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use. Services include counselling, opioid substitution therapy, withdrawal support, and culturally safe programs, delivered by a multidisciplinary team committed to recovery-oriented care.

About your opportunity

As a Clinical Nurse in the Opiate Substitution Program, you will provide advanced nursing care, harm reduction interventions, and case management for individuals affected by substance use. You will administer opioid substitution therapy under established protocols, deliver counselling, and contribute to staff development, community education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent and current AHPRA registration.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in Mental Health and/or Alcohol and Other Drug would be well regarded.
  • Highly Desirable: Credentialed status (or willingness to undertake and complete requirements) with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and/or Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia (DANA).
  • Highly Desirable: Eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016.
  • Evidence of vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD).
  • Current Class C driver licence.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership in clinical decision-making.
  • A probationary period may apply.
