Biosecurity Queensland monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation. Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.

As a Principal Project Officer (Marine Response Coordinator), you will:

  • Lead the implementation of biosecurity response activity which focuses on surveillance, control and containment of Asian green mussels in Weipa.
  • Provide oversight, coordination and specialist advice to managers and stakeholders regarding the management of Asian green mussel in Weipa.
  • Develop and review policy, and prepare high level reports and briefings regarding emergency and incident management.
  • Develop and maintain incident and emergency management systems including response plans, procedures, work instructions, training plans, and programs.
  • Represent Queensland at national forums and working groups relevant to the role as required.
  • Supervise staff reporting directly to the position and those that that may be allocated to temporarily assist with emergency and incident management activities.
  • Establish, enhance, and maintain strategic relationships across Biosecurity Queensland, the Department, other agencies and jurisdictions, industry stakeholders, and external groups to enhance Biosecurity's incident management.
  • Possess or be able to quickly attain a good working knowledge of Queensland and national biosecurity preparedness and response frameworks.
  • Undertake risk and issue identification, assessment and mitigation activities ensuring risks and issues are documented, reviewed, and escalated along with recommendations as appropriate.
