About Us:
The Cairns Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a specialist child and youth multidisciplinary team that provides clinical services including triage/intake, crisis response, assessment, treatment and case management to consumers who experience complex or severe mental health concerns. The team promote a strength based, recovery-focused approach to children and their families who reside in the Cairns area and surrounding communities. Indigenous health workers within this service are required to carry out Cultural Information Gathering Tool (CIGT), HANAA, IRIS and SSP tools to support and conduct culturally safe assessments and interventions.
About You:
The purpose of the role is to improve health outcomes by ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are engaged and consulted in the development and delivery of person centred culturally safe Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug services.
- Participate in the development, planning and implementation of culturally responsive MHAOD services.
- Participate in peer support activities with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Workers.
- Actively participate in professional and community networks and associations to promote and maintain knowledge, skills, and relationships.
- Support and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients/families with a range of MHAOD services and other service providers.
- Collaboration on assessment, case management, intake and discharge by providing cultural guidance, information, education and support to health professionals, community based workers and other service providers.
