Townsville University Hospital is seeking casual Switchboard Administrators to join our fast‑paced and supportive team.

In this vital frontline role, you will be responsible for professionally answering and managing incoming and internal calls, ensuring enquiries are accurately directed and critical information is communicated efficiently across the hospital.

About the opportunity   

This position will provide a professional and courteous switchboard service to staff and customers of the hospital, ensuring appropriate action and response within suitable timeframes.

PLEASE NOTE - There are three (3) casual positions available.

Role requirements

  • This position will require the ability to work varied hours in compliance with operational hours of the Switchboard Services Unit.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to exercise personal judgement and initiative in the provision of efficient telecommunication services, including problem resolution and emergent response.
  • Extensive customer service experience and knowledge of general office and reception duties, preferably within a Health Care environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision maintaining discretion and exercising judgment where necessary, to resolve problems within the scope of your role in situations where precedents have not been set and procedures not defined.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously to all levels, including members of the public and patients.
  • Proficiency in the application of computerised information systems and applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work as part of the Switchboard and Health Service Team.
