As a Facility Officer at the Health and Food Sciences Precinct (HFSP), you'll play a key hands‑on role in keeping a complex, purpose‑driven scientific environment running smoothly. You'll be part of a collaborative team that supports critical research and laboratory operations, making a real difference every day.
In this role, you'll manage the efficient receipt, dispatch and delivery of goods and mail through the HFSP central store, working closely with agencies across the precinct during standard store hours (7:00 am to 3:00 pm). You'll also coordinate chemical and gas deliveries, helping ensure laboratories are safely and reliably supplied, while maintaining accurate documentation such as Safety Data Sheets and chemical manifests using systems like Chemwatch.
You'll work alongside the Maintenance Officer and Research Facility Manager to support the upkeep of essential building plant, equipment and scientific facilities.
This includes assisting with planned and reactive maintenance activities, monitoring and responding to the Building Maintenance System (BMS), and liaising with contractors and service technicians when required—always with a strong focus on safety and protecting the integrity of scientific research.
The role suits someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in getting things done well, and is comfortable using computer systems to record and manage information, including Microsoft Outlook and maintenance systems. You'll be encouraged to show initiative, build positive working relationships with colleagues and clients, and actively contribute to a safe, professional and supportive workplace.
You'll be supported to grow through an individual development program, gain exposure to a unique scientific precinct, and develop your facilities and maintenance skills over time. There is also an optional opportunity to join an on‑call roster for after‑hours emergency maintenance, providing additional experience and variety.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
