Team Leader, Escalations Review Team

The Team Leader, Escalation Review role sits within the Strategy and Engagement Division within Victim Assist. The team consists of a Team Leader (AO7), two Senior Liaison Officers (AO6), and two Senior Review Officers (AO6).
The Team Leader, Escalation Review will be appointed by the Chief Executive as a Government assessor under Section 128 of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009 (VOCAA) and is responsible for monitoring and reporting on various workloads within established timeframes and adjusting priorities quickly as circumstances dictate whilst adhering to strict legislated timeframes and Ministerial due dates. You will oversee and provide advice on complex decisions that can be externally reviewed by the Queensland Civil and Administration Tribunal (QCAT).

Key responsibilities
• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Liaise with the Office of the Director-General, Office of the Senior Executive Director and other departmental divisional contacts to ensure the timely preparation of high-quality correspondence, letters and other documents as required for the Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support and victim advocacy groups.
• Builds and maintains relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including other departmental business units and the non-government sector, to ensuring the effective and efficient support for victims of crime.
• Oversee and manage workflows to ensure timely and accurate decision-making regarding the internal review of decisions.
• Provides advice on complex operational process and policy issues relating to administration of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009 and;
• Provides leadership and direction to a team of administrative law decision makers who undertake complex evidence-based decision making in accordance with the Act.
• Undertakes complex evidence-based decision making relating to the provision of assistance under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
• Perform functions as required under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
• Represent VAQ at Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) hearings.
• Actively identify ways in which departmental processes and liaison activities can be streamlined to ensure maximum efficiencies are met and stakeholders are supported.
• Assist the Relationship Manager with financial, human resource and performance management activities including establishment management, workforce and succession planning, coaching and mentoring.
