Clinical Assistant - Phlebotomist

Join the team in tropical Mackay and play a vital role in delivering high-quality healthcare services to the community. We’re looking for a motivated and reliable team player with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on patient care to join our Specimen Collection team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely collection and processing of pathology specimens, along with Clinical Pathology and Specimen Reception duties. Working as part of a supportive and professional team, you will help ensure the delivery of an efficient, effective and high-quality pathology service to patients and healthcare providers across the region.

You'll be supported by experienced leaders and gain valuable experience within a respected pathology service.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated in-depth, or ability to acquire knowledge of specimen collection, and the ability to perform phlebotomy on a wide range of patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
- Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, Clinical Pathology and the use of medical and scientific terminology.
- Demonstrated client focus skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with a wide range of clients and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner with and without direct supervision. Ability to prioritize workloads to meet specific deadlines.
- Ability to work shifts as rostered to ensure service provision to our clients, by participating in all rostered shifts between 0600 hrs and 1700 hrs over a 7 day period.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and an understanding of the basis of laboratory Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs.
- Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour
