Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies.

About the role:

As a Scientist, you will apply advanced technical or competent level scientific knowledge, skills and experience in Anatomical Pathology and engage in independent decision making and judgement on a day-to-day basis with minimal supervision to provide an effective, efficient, client focused Histopathology service.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Apply well developed scientific and advanced technical knowledge, skills and experience in the analysis of Anatomical Pathology specimens.
  • Apply increasing independent judgement, commensurate with level of experience, in the analysis of technical and scientific issues and the provision of advice to clients and stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Undertake problem resolution and related duties following well established protocols and processes and in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
  • Actively participate in the Anatomical Pathology and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the Anatomical Pathology team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.
  • Commensurate with level of experience provide scientific/technical education and supervision for less experience practitioners and provide direction to assistant and support staff.
  • Participate in the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority / International Standardisation.

Role fit:

You will bring strong expertise in coordinating Anatomical Pathology services, applying advanced technical and scientific judgement to deliver accurate, high-quality outcomes in accordance with established procedures and clinical standards. Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, you will manage complex workloads, communicate priorities clearly and support the efficient delivery of pathology services. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with NATA/ISO accreditation requirements while maintaining a strong focus on quality, service excellence and patient care.
