As a Principal Project Officer – Transformation and Innovation you will lead the coordination and delivery of complex health service innovation and transformation projects, working across teams and disciplines to shape better care models and drive sustainable improvement across CHQ. This role is predominantly focused on leading and delivering complex transformation and innovation projects across CHQ, with flexibility to contribute to broader team priorities and capability building as required.

About the Team

The Strategy and Transformation Division is a dynamic support function that leads and enables critical strategic and transformation initiatives across the HHS and broader statewide paediatric network. We are a team that encourages creativity, critical thinking and a growth mindset and apply evidence-based methodologies across the complex healthcare context.

The Transformation and Innovation team focus:

  • Process and Service Improvement – Enhancing the performance, efficiency, and quality of existing systems and services.
  • Innovation – Creating new value through fresh ideas, whether incremental or disruptive.
  • Capability Building – Empowering teams across CHQ to innovate and improve with confidence.
  • Our work touches every corner of the organisation - from clinical and non-clinical services to core support functions. Some of our programs are large-scale and transformative.

About the Role

In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

Improvement and Innovation

  • Lead the design and delivery of complex projects aligned with CHQ's strategic priorities.
  • Understand and apply contemporary improvement and innovation methodologies, maintain knowledge in this field through continuous learning and contribute to thought leadership and capability building activities within CHQ and the wider system.
  • Oversee project governance, risk, reporting and documentation to ensure strategic alignment and delivery confidence. Shaping fit-for-purpose governance and project methodologies aligned to project scale, complexity, and strategic intent.

Data Analysis and Evaluation

  • Source and interpret research, complex data and environmental scanning to guide project design and decision-making.
  • Lead the development of implementation strategies, change management approaches, outcome frameworks and tailored evaluation approaches that measure impact and value.

Team Collaboration, Engagement and Culture

  • Drive high impact stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and communication strategies to support co-design and implementation.
  • Initiate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable collaboration and strategic alignment.
  • Champion a high-performance culture that supports leadership development, wellbeing and strategic impact.

Leadership

  • Demonstrate high level time management and workload management skills in prioritising workload demands and meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Provide leadership in project and change management to support local interprofessional teams to identify, plan and implement local improvement and innovation initiatives.
  • Provide leadership into strategic service planning within the context of specified work program.
