About us:
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service provide an extensive range of health services at more than 30 regional, rural and remote facilities across a geographical area of 142,900 square kilometres.
The Health Service is 95 percent self-sufficient with only a small number of high- level acute services being provided in Townsville and Brisbane.
The Endoscopy Unit at Cairns Hospital is a purpose-built multidisciplinary unit operating three procedure rooms. It provides diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy as well as gastroenterology (GE) outpatient services, Manometry, Pillcam, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS).
The unit provides 24-hour emergency care. Cairns Hospital Endoscopy Unit is the leading unit in Australia for Endoscopist Directed Nurse Administered Propofol Sedation (EDNAPS).
This element sets the department to a high clinical standard, especially when developing nursing leaders within the department.
About your role:
- Assess, prepare, educate, and admit patients for endoscopic procedures.
- Assist with endoscopy procedures, sedation, and patient monitoring.
- Provide post-procedure recovery care, discharge education, and documentation.
- Support specialised and high-risk procedures, including theatre-based cases.
- Undertake endoscope reprocessing and contribute to infection prevention and quality management processes.
