Key outcomes/Accountabilities

The aim of this role is to:

  • Provide specialist general legal advice across the QBCC by researching issues or reviewing legislation and policies and offering appropriate strategies and actions, including advice in relation to:
    • Contract law
    • Employment law matters
    • Governance requirements
    • General advice across the broad spectrum of QBCC legal matters and advice required.
  • Assist with administrative review proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, judicial review and other proceedings in the Supreme Court, and appellant proceedings in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Court of Appeal and prosecution matters.
  • Cultivate effective working relationships with internal clients and key stakeholders to foster a cooperative approach to achieving the QBCC’s aims.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to QBCC staff and external customers.

Candidate attributes

Mandatory requirements:

  • Admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland with at least 15 years experience.
  • Holder of a current practicing certificate issued by the Queensland Law Society.
  • Fully compliant with all CPD requirements of the Queensland Law Society.

In addition, the ideal candidate will also need to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate their ability to conduct litigation including appearing as an advocate in tribunals or courts and ability to apply contemporary legal principles and practices, as they relate to administrative review proceedings.
  2. Demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively including the ability to apply negotiation and mediation skills.
  3. Demonstrate their ability to work effectively in a team and achieve performance measures.
  4. Demonstrate their experience in being customer and solutions focused including an ability to deliver high quality legal services in a professional way.
