The Manager, Psychological Practice and Governance ensures the effective and efficient delivery of high-quality psychological services in correctional centres. This will be achieved through high level stakeholder relationship management, governance processes, training and capability development, and provision of high-level expertise and advice.

The Manager, Psychological Practice and Governance is a critical state-wide role leading a team of senior psychologist(s) and principal advisor/practitioner(s).

The Manager, Psychological Practice and Governance will:

- Develop, implement and oversee sustainable training, professional development and practice support strategies for staff within the Psychological Services portfolio including provision of assessment and support to prisoners with a disability.

- Manage the provision of high level and clinical advice, support and training to correctional centre and Community Corrections staff involved in psychological and disability services.

- Provide support to Agency psychological and disability service delivery, including maintaining a working professional knowledge of best-practice principles for the management of offenders/prisoners.

- Develop and deliver a quality assurance framework that supports practice development and robust decision making aimed at delivery of psychological and disability services.

- Monitor the quality of psychological and disability services, relevant trends and develop strategies to improve the quality and consistency of practice.

- Maintain a clinical caseload commensurate with Manager responsibilities and/or provide expert advice on the appropriate management of complex/challenging cases.

- Provide expert consultancy and advice on psychology practices to senior psychologists, psychologists and other operational managers.

- Provide clinical supervision, support and mentorship to senior psychologists and other identified staff.

- Manage the preparation of strategic advice and ministerial and executive correspondence ensuring accuracy and timelines are met.

- Demonstrate a high level of understanding of contemporary rehabilitation, offender management, psychological services in correctional settings and professional practice issues, trends and practices.

- Represent the Agency in negotiations with other Government Agencies and key agencies as required to ensure the achievement of Government priorities and outcomes.

- Lead and participate in high level liaison with external and internal stakeholders.

- Collaborate effectively with other Directorates in order to achieve strategic outcomes.

- Manage compliance with corporate governance, budgetary and human resources, workplace health and safety management practices and associated legislative frameworks.

Mandatory Qualifications, Conditions and Requirements:

A degree qualification in psychology and a general registration as a psychologist is required. Possession of post graduate qualifications (or significant progress towards post graduate qualifications) in a relevant field would be highly regarded. Approval by the Psychology Board as a supervisor or current eligibility to undertake this process is a mandatory requirement for this role.
