The Role

An opportunity has become available for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultant - Advanced (Identified) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will 

  • Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds
  • Manage staff by fostering and committing to patient safety and quality in the delivery of health care by maintaining and evaluating safety and quality practices and initiatives
  • Link community outreach and primary health pathways with traditional healing practices and access language and interpreting support as required
  • Support and advocate for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients/families with a range of services

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Identified Indigenous Information under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community
  • Hold a minimum of one of the following qualifications; Diploma in Mental Health/ Alcohol and Drugs/ Counselling/ Community Services/ Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care/ Health Science (Mental Health) or a relevant qualification at a higher level
  • While not mandatory, recent work experience working in the field of Child and Youth Mental Health would be well regarded
  • Drivers licence
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed

Salary

  • Permanent part time (30 hrs per fortnight)
  • Base salary ranging from $37.06 - $39.33 per hour

About Us 

The Adolescent Day Program (ADP) is part of the state-wide Child and Youth Mental Health Services continuum of care providing specialist, multidisciplinary assessment and integrated treatment for adolescents with severe, persistent mental illnesses which results in severe psychosocial impairment. The ADP operates on the premise that young people can and do recover from mental illness. This complex tertiary service is based at Robina hospital.
