The Role

An opportunity has become available for an Administration Officer (Identified) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Complete general administration duties including but not limited to admitting, discharging and transferring patients to and from the unit
  • Complete accurate patient information into Hospital Based Computer Information System (HBCIS), scanning documents into the integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR) ensuring discharge summaries are efficiently managed
  • Provide effective and cooperative communications by responding appropriately to customer enquiries at reception and within the work area
  • Answer the telephone, patient appointment bookings/rescheduling and cancellations, noting and forwarding messages and using the Outlook email system
  • Manage patient referrals, organise and book outpatient appointments where appropriate

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders
  • While not mandatory, a relevant qualification would be well regarded
  • Whilst not mandatory a sound knowledge of the HBCIS system is highly desirable
  • Whilst not mandatory the ability to work in a busy clinical environment is highly desirable
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed

  • Temporary part time (twelve months with the possibility of extension, 22.8 hrs p.f.)
  • Base salary ranging from $32.99 - $36.88 per hour

About Us

This position will work in collaboration with Identified and non-identified Midwives, Child Health Nurse's, Health Workers, and will work closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of the Gold Coast.

Waijungbah Jarjums Group Practice is a continuity of care service that provides primary care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their families in collaboration with other health care providers across the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth and the post-partum period. Milleri-Nyumbarlian Group Practice provides midwifery led care to women who need additional navigation through the hospital system and may have co-morbidities such as a history with alcohol and other drugs and/or mental health. This position is based in Southport.
