The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

The Child Development Service is currently seeking an Advanced Health Worker to join their team on a temporary part-time basis up to 30/06/2022 (30.4 hours per fortnight).

About your opportunity
This position is part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in, and contributing to the delivery of culturally sensitive and respectful diagnostic health services for children with complex development needs.

You will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families throughout the diagnostic process, with onward referral to early intervention providers and in engaging with relevant community organisations.

Key duties include;

  • Assist families to engage in the assessment and diagnostic process and will deliver culturally appropriate education and support to increase families knowledge and understanding of their child's diagnosis and developmental needs.
  • A Lead role in linking families with early intervention providers and appropriate community supports.
  • To have a lead role in liaising with relevant stakeholders (i.e. local schools, early childhood educations centres) to ensure the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with complex developmental delays/differences are well understood.
  • Develop and implement appropriate communication and engagement strategies to support working partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families as part of the Child Development Service.

Role requirements:

  • Mandatory: a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • Current blue card (working with children).
  • Current 'C' class motor vehicle licence.
  • This position has been identified unders25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), to have a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.   • COVID-19 vaccination: It is a condition of employment for all prospective and existing health service employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (first does by 30 Sept 2021, second dose by 31 Oct 2021). All employees must maintain vaccination protection and provide evidence confirming they have received the prescribed number of doses of the vaccine.

Generous remuneration package based on full-time equivalent value up to $81,278 p.a. comprising salary range of $33.60 to $35.92 p.h. (HW4), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation.
