The Psychological Services Unit serves under the Specialist Operations Branch of QCS, provides specialist support to psychological services staff operating within correctional centres through the provision of clinical and practice advice, professional development activities, and governance oversight.


Southern Queensland Correctional Centre is a women's facility located in Spring Creek, approximately 17 kms from the township of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley and 45 minutes west of Ipswich. The centre provides high security placement accommodation for sentenced and remand women that are classified as high or low security. Women who enter the criminal justice system often come from lives characterised by sexual, emotional and physical abuse, domestic and family violence, substance addiction and mental health problems. There is a unique opportunity for psychologists to work with female prisoners with a multidisciplinary therapeutic team conducting the assessment, group and individual intervention to support positive rehabilitation outcomes. Candidates interested in working with women are strongly encouraged to apply.


  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence based assessment and intervention for adults, experiencing difficulties related to mental health problems, cognitive impairment or developmental disorders.
  • Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to provide high quality professional reports and case notes.
  • Well-developed verbal communication skills with the ability to engage with a diverse client group and to effectively communicate with stakeholders in a manner appropriate to the audience.
  • Knowledge, interpretation and application of legislation, policies and procedures.

  • Eligible for registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  • If eligible for registration as Provisional Psychologist, must be either currently on the 4+2 internship pathway, or have completed an APAC accredited 5th year degree in psychology and eligible for 5+1 internship pathway.
