We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic and proactive lawyer to lead our Legal Strategy and Services Group. Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner - General Counsel, Policy and Legal Command, this Director role will lead the management and provision of legal advice and representation for QCS on a broad range of matters including the following:
• providing advice on statutory interpretation, including administrative, commercial, common, criminal & disciplinary law;
• reviewing advice on legislation including draft Bills, second reading speeches, explanatory notes, drafting instructions & regulations;
• managing civil claims including personal injury, common law WorkCover, antidiscrimination and industrial relations claims;
• appearing in courts a& tribunals on behalf of QCS & instructing Crown Law in litigation including coronial inquests, judicial review application

- Ability to provide high-level technical legal and strategic advice and support to clients, with strong knowledge of relevant legislation and government policy and procedure and its application in the corrective services context.
- Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and collegiately with team members and senior management, develop talent, value diversity and build effective teams to bring about the best use of resources and, using negotiation, facilitation and consultation, the ability to build credibility, trust and influence.
- Strong written and oral communication skills necessary to produce well-reasoned, succinct, accurate and effective legal and strategic advice, submissions, briefs and reports.
- Provide supervision and mentoring to other team members and contribute to the overall cohesion and success of the goals of the Group in a way that values performance, improvement, collaboration and innovation.
