The Legislation Group:
• coordinates, develops and delivers QCS’ legislative program to ensure QCS’ operations are supported by a modern, best practice legislative framework;
• works across QCS, the Queensland government and with other jurisdictions to identify and assess potential opportunities for legislative reform, aligning to government priorities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system;
• develops advice for the Minister, Commissioner and Executive Leadership Team on legislative reforms that of interest to QCS or may impact on QCS’ operations and manages legislative projects from conception through to Parliamentary consideration.

The Manager Legislation is responsible for the development of legislation relevant to the operation of corrective services, through leading and managing the analysis, development and implementation of QCS's legislative reform agenda.
In this role you will:
- Oversee and manage the research, analysis, development, implementation and evaluation of policy relating to the Corrective Services Act 2006, other legislation relative to the operation of corrective services, and associated reform projects.
- Coordinate and provide high-level advice on legislative reform options and other matters relating to corrective services.
- Manage corrective services legislation projects from initiation through to the conclusion of parliamentary consideration.
- Provide input into legislation of other justice sector agencies and other government departments relevant to corrective services.
- Provide expert advice and information to management and staff about the interpretation of the Corrective Services Act 2006 and other relevant legislation.
- Manage the preparation of strategic advice for QCS's Deputy Commissioners, Commissioner and the Minister in relation to emerging issues and legislative amendments, development of complex submissions and reports, briefing notes, presentations, publications and correspondence for various audiences, including Cabinet, Parliament and the general public.
- Develop, influence and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and facilitate effective communication channels to ensure optimal outcomes, achievement of goals and fulfilment of responsibilities.
- Lead and participate in intra-departmental/agency and inter-departmental/agency meetings as required.
- Maintain own knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures in relation to the management of offenders.
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the Legislation Group, including active participation in planning, prioritisation of business and resource management, and fostering collaborative relationships with key internal partners to maximise outcomes through the effective use of available resources.
- Manage capability and resource development through leadership, supervision and development of staff.
