The Office of the Deputy Commissioner (ODC) is a fast-paced, high-volume environment, with a small team responsible for providing strategic and operational support to the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations.

The Strategic and Executive Command (SEC) provides high-level, strategic, and operational support to the Senior Executive leadership of the Custodial Operations division.

The SEC works closely with key internal stakeholders including, but not limited to, the Office of the Commissioner, the Offices of the Deputy Commissioners, Office of the Assistant Commissioners, Custodial Operations, Operational Support, Specialist Operations and People Capability Command to:

- Proactively identify issues which carry strategic risk and provide advice to the respective Senior Executive;

In the role of Senior Advisor, you will ensure all Ministerial, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Executive correspondence for Custodial Operations are of a high standard and processed within specified timeframes, and provide the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations high level briefings on the complex and business critical information.

In this role you will:

- Manage a high volume of correspondence received in the ODC CO inbox and provide timely responses to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times and manage sensitive and business critical information.
- Deliver high level briefings to the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations.
- Manage correspondence flow from the ODC CO to the other two Office of the Deputy Commissioners to ensure the timely consideration of all Commissioner and Minister briefings.
- Develop, monitor and evaluate systems and processes that support the efficient flow of all Custodial Operations correspondence (in/out).
- Prepare and draft high quality briefing notes and correspondence on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations.
- Co-ordinate, critically examine and quality assure all Ministerial, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and other QCS documents to ensure accuracy of content, standard of presentation and compatibility with government policy, legislative requirements and in accordance with the QCS Writing Style Guide.
- Show a high level of discerning judgement with the associated ability to interpret when information is missing, not relevant or high risk/sensitive and reframe accordingly.
- Risk mitigate all documents and reports to ensure high attention to detail and accuracy of content and ensuring compliance with legislation or QCS Policy, without diluting the response or understanding of the receiver.
- Liaise extensively and maintain networks with all senior executives and peers to ensure the coordination of documentation including follow-up action in the compilation and finalisation of briefings, possible parliamentary questions, questions on notice and other correspondence within required timeframes.
- Undertake specific projects, tasks and report on emerging issues as requested by the Staff Officer.
- Manage and audit MINCOR access across all Custodial Operations Commands.
- Support and provide in house training to the Custodial Operations Commands ensuring efficient and effective use of the MINCOR system and workflows.
- Undertake research and investigations on issues and provide consistent advice to senior management within Custodial Operations Commands in relation to emerging and topical issues.
- Maintain a sound knowledge of Custodial Operations issues, business and services to stay in touch with emerging issues, business and community needs.
